SPECIFICATIONS
Melding centuries-old tradition and modern naval design, Vela was conceived by an American architect and built in South Sulawesi by renowned Konjo boatbuilders. Its sleek hull was designed for optimal performance and safety using locally sourced ironwood and teak. Stable and highly maneuverable, Vela is equally well-suited for cruising the Indonesian shores and undertaking crossings, enabling it to reach far-flung islands of Indonesia and beyond.
In order to limit Vela’s footprint on the environment, her hull was shaped to optimize fuel efficiency at sea and her rigging is well-suited for leisure sailing. Single-use plastic is banned from all suites and cabins, and bespoke reef-safe sunscreen and bath amenities are provided for our guests’ comfort during their private cruise in Indonesia.
To offset the large quantity of wood inherently consumed throughout the traditional boatbuilding process, twice as many trees as were used for construction were planted in partnership with OneTreePlanted in Borneo, where most ironwood was sourced. All of the teak used for Vela’s custom furniture was sourced from sustainable forestry.
